This month we designed and sewed a dress for Amanda Chapman in Tuscumbia. Anyone unfamiliar with her can find her 31 faces of Halloween posts HERE! She is an incredible photographer, yet she dabbles in FX makeup like a goddess!
Recently she was selected as one of the top 30 artists for the NYX Face Challenge! The first challenge is royalty. Amanda asked if we had any royal dresses. we do of course! But, we decided to make her something special. Below are some process shots of making the dress week before last. But you can see the finished product in her challenge video.
We hope you love her look. If you do help her to the next round by voting and sharing. You can vote up to 3 times a day if you want. Enjoy!
Happy Mardi Gras y’all! I have been loving the Instagram feeds of friends in New Orleans over the past week. One of my favorites is the Lundi Gras Red Beans Parade. Here is a more “mainstream” article about it. Enjoy! ARTICLE
I hope everyone here had a fantastic Mardi Gras Parade in Huntsville and Decatur! We saw some great theme requests come into the shop last week. We helped Abigail find the perfect “Paradise” makeup for a zebra, and even dressed up little red riding hood!
We had a fantastic weekend meeting over 800 drama students and educators at the Alabama Thespian Festival in Pelham over the weekend. We were able to provide demo makeup, teach kids about stage makeup and more! We will definitely go back next year! I will post more photos on the Facebook Page later.
Now for a couple of weeks in the shop before Spring Break hits. We are working hard on Pinocchio at Fantasy Playhouse Theatre, and helping with UAH’s Faustus. We will post more on how to see the shows as the time gets closer. Have a great week!
Tutorial #1 is by Sara Loves. Although we love professional makeup artists, we like to support newbies too! Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Make sure you click LIKE if you like it!
You can use Lumiere cremes and powders to accomplish these looks. If you seal them in with Liqui set from Ben Nye or Final Seal, they will last 12 hours or more and keep a glassy “eye” look! This makeup gals tutorial can be found at Siobahn McDonnell. It is a great look! No pun intended!
Lastly, learn how to use our Woochie third eye prosthetic. We carry them in the shop and they are fairly easy to use. We have everything you need to apply, makeup, and seal them. I can predict that you will have an amazing Halloween with this look from Elli Macs SFX makeup. And you can use our third eye as a shortcut. Seeeee you in the shop!
Octobre is finally here! Although the shop stays busy all year round, we live for Octobre! Why? Because, everyone else is finally in the mood to dress up! We love coming up with new ideas, and bringing out the classics too! Here are some ideas from the first 4 days of Halloween. Because at Fig Leaf Halloween is a month long event. Come in and take a look around, ask us questions, tell us your ideas, boogie to the Halloween music, answer our spooky telephone and have a chat with our pet chatter teeth! There is plenty to keep you busy, while we help pull together your look! We cannot wait to see you, and see what ideas are in that lovely big pink brain of yours!
Here is Joanna in our 1950’s poodle skirt, as a sock hop gal!
Joanna dressed as a fortune teller. We gussied up the milk maid for an Old World Festival Gal with a flower headdress. They didn’t have raves or discos back then, but they still partied, right?
Our beautiful new hooded bodysuits are made by Tony Diaz! He made this Stellar suit for us! It is great for voluptuous gals that want to make a bold statement. We named our alien “Zanzibar the Fierce”. There are all kinds of looks available with a little flexibility, and thinking outside of the planet. Being a mummy was so fun! I went out with Cleopatra and Professor Phanco. We went to Sam & Gregs Pizzeria for dinner. We loved meeting fellow locals and families! I was sad to call it a wrap when we had to go! I could live in that costume. We finished up at a local spot on the square. It felt a little like my tomb back home!
Bring out yer dead! Seriously! Bring out your best dead look for the 2015 Annual Zombie Walk! Every Year, World Conspiracy owners Candy and Phlip host a zombie walk through downtown. Just to get you in the mood, here are a few links to die for, when it comes to zombies! You don’t have to use the alcohol based palettes, creme and cake palettes are just as effective for an afternoon jaunt, or an evening out. Our favorite makeup artist is Made U Look by Lex. We love her style and hope you do too!
